Kenya has at least 40 different ethnic groups. It also is home to a multitude of foreign immigrants; Europeans, Arabs, Indians and Pakistanis. Although the Native culture has been dilute, communities in certain parts of Kenya have retained their traditional cultures and ways of living. Alongside their cultures, they have retained their indigenous belief systems. Dancing is important in the Kenyan culture, with different tribes having their own different dance routines. Most popular is the Maasai dance that includes men competing to see who can jump the highest. The Music in Kenya is polyrhythmic encompassing different beats simultaneously. Primary instruments are drums. The singing mostly follows a call and response pattern.
